Sultan Mehmet Ali Aba Pasha Ben Kuka

bence-sultanThe Sultan will be visiting Canada with his servant, Bence Sarkadi, coming to Almonte during the Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival.
We caught up with him as he departed Europe.

What do you do?
Percussions and break dancing, planning world domination.

What colour are your pyjamas?
Blue so that they match my turban.

What’s your favourite bedtime story?
Ali Baba and the 40 thieves.

What do you have for breakfast?

Where would you most like to go on holidays?
Like all Sultans I like conquering the world as a pastime and spending summers on the beaches of one of my newly acquired countries.

When did your first big adventure start?
I was once the ruler of the Ottoman Empire. I went to Greece to invade the country but I was told that it had been done once before and it didn’t work out too well. So I did the next best thing: I conquered the hearts of the citizens of Greece with my dancing. Then I went on to other countries. My dream is to one day rule the world, or at least the puppet stages of the world.

What three things would you bring to a deserted island?
My drums, my music and my turban.

Who would you most like to get stuck in an elevator with?
Halar Babi Turbulabi, the world’s foremost designer of stylish turbans.

What’s one thing you don’t like?
Being put back into the bag after performing. The bag ruffles my turban.

Do you have any bad habits?
Looooove turbans, can’t get enough of them.

What scares you?
Marionette lions and going on stage without my turban.
